Pure for Him

By Rose H.

These days purity is a hot topic. It seems like everywhere you look there are sermons, books, messages, and devotionals with the aim of making us pure.

But what is purity? Purity is being untainted by the world. Purity is being spotless for Him. Purity is having a clean conscious before God.

Have you ever noticed how some people elevate it so much that it sounds like we should strive for purity for purity’s sake? Purity has many rewards, but apart from God purity becomes meaningless. Being pure has great value when your eyes are on Him.

Instead purity should come from a deep seeded desire to love and serve our Heavenly King with everything we have. Love for Him will make us want to keep ourselves separate for Him.

But purity is hard work. It requires a lot of self-control. It requires that you give up or push away things that you enjoy. It’s not easy, but it always worth it. Short term it’s hard and uncomfortable. Long term it reaps the rewards of sweet fellowship with God and others. Long term it enables us to give ourselves more fully to God. Purity is worth it however when we are living it for God.

Even as I write this I know that there are things that I stumble in. I am still trying to separate myself from this world and its distractions. Sometimes I don’t do as well as I would like. Thankfully I have a God who is willing to forgive and help me. Whenever I become tainted by the world, He washes me clean.

So let us strive to be His pure servants willing to serve our Master at all times. Let us follow Him and in doing so separate ourselves from the evil that surrounds us. Let us endeavor to live our lives saving the best part of ourselves for Him.

Hi Rose,
This is a very encouraging and relevant post. I just want to share one Bible verse that greatly reminds me everyday and I'm sure to all Christians as well, Romans 12:2 "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will."

VERY true! Purity is not all about us and our future husband, but about GOD!!! Thanks for this!
