1) Who is your one of your favorite film or literary heroes/heroines and why?
A book that I return to time and again is titled Hope Was Here by Joan Bauer. The heroine is a terrific waitress who has lived all over, from New York to Brooklyn to Pensacola. But when she and her aunt, a fantastic cook who just can't seem to find the right restaurant, are betrayed, the next stop is a little town in Wisconsin.
I've re-read this little novel about a dozen times and it was probably the first Young Adult book I ever picked up. The funny thing? This book isn't even overtly Christian! Hope has a great voice that pulls me into the story over and over and makes me notice details I haven't seen before. Shining like crystal is Hope's persistence and perseverence. She's hardly anything like me (I'm a smiler; she's more serious) but her faith in the right and her willingness to work for what she wants hooks me every time.

2) What is the soundtrack to your life right now?
Oh, that's a tough one, but I think I'll say There's A Place For Us as performed by Carrie Underwood. It's the first song to play when I open up my blog. The first time I heard it was in the movie theater a year ago this December. The month of December seems like a magical time to me. Since I live in the south, it's just beginning to feel wintery. The air is silvery and blue and the anticipation of Christmas brightens everything. This coupled with the fact that the movie my family was seeing was the latest Chronicles of Narnia film and I was hooked. This song played during the credits.
This song describes beautifully the transported feeling I get whenever I dive into a new scene of my latest novel. At the time I bought this song off of I-Tunes, I played it over and over. My first semester of college had just ended and I was writing my first novel. New and dazzling, that's how I would describe it.

3) What is your half-birthday?
I love my birthday! I think it's really fun, too, that my birthday and Christmas are about six months apart, so no matter what time of year it is, a fun day is never far! My birthday, June 7th, is the day after D-Day (the anniversary of the Battle of Normandy in 1944) and my half-birthday, December 7th, is the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor (1941). Maybe it's because my dad is a WWII enthusiast, but I think it's neat and sobering to have such important dates to me also be near or on important dates to our country.

4) What are five words that you would use to describe you? Be descriptive!! :)
As you may have guessed from that last answer: Patriotic.
Loyal. Faithful to a fault. When I latch on to something, it's hard for me to let go. God has taught me that the things really worth holding on to, He is holding on to, also (which makes giving up what I want or have planned easier).
Sunny. I'm a perpetual smiler.
Classic. I once had a conversation with a ten-year-old on fashion. Given the choice between Abercrombie and Fitch and Hollister, she said, "Oh, I think you're more of a J.C. Penny kind of girl." Exactly.
Dreamer. Was there ever any doubt? I get lost with my head in the clouds (or my nose in a book book) more often than I can count.

5) What is your favorite day of the year?
That's easy! It's a three-way tie between Christmas Day, my birthday, and my half-birthday! (Yes, in that order.)

6) What would you rather do than almost anything else?
Write. Whether it's the latest chapter in the novel I'm working on, a devo for Meditations of His Love, or an article, I think more clearly with a pen in my hand.

7) How do you hear God best?
The simple answer is listen. How do I listen? I make time to sit before Him and just allow Him to speak to my heart through His Word and that still, small voice. Most often, instead of "sitting before Him," I'm "walking before Him" by leashing up my dog and pullling on my sneakers for a lap (or ten) around the neighborhood. When I'm out, basking in the beauty of His creation, I feel Him near. It's easier to get quiet when all around you is quiet.
8) What is your favorite pastime?
I love to read! For more on books I love, you'll have to visit my blog, but I'll tell you that fairy tales are my absolute favorites. The genres that dominate my bookshelf are Young Adult Fantasy (though I prefer only toned-down majic) and Historical Romance. I'll read almost anything set in medievel times, the Revolutionary War, or on a tall ship. Throw in a Princess and I'm a happy camper!
