God's Plan for Your Year

Written by Miss Rachel

Each year thousands of people make "resolutions"...some are selfish and some really are good goals.

"I'm going to lose weight this year", "I will to spend more time with my family", "I want to start my own business this year (or make it better)"...the list goes on.

But every year I think, what does God have planned for my year? I've made these resolutions/goals before only to have plans changed and things not go the way I had thought they'd be. Now, I'm not saying that making goals is a bad thing...not if it's something that you know the Lord has placed in your heart to work on. :) Everyone has things in their lives that could use improvement.

But what I am asking you is...what does God want with you in this next year? What is your purpose in making these resolutions/goals? If it's only to be a better person, then it's not going to get you far. :( Our goal in life should be to be a light in a dark place...to share Jesus Christ with as many people as we can, and to live a life that brings glory to God so others can see Him reflected in our lives. :) We need to set our will aside sometimes because God wants to do more with us. Because He has a purpose for our life that is more than just the day-to-day things.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD..." ~ Jeremiah 29:11a

God truly *does* have a plan for you, for me, for each of us! :D He wants you to be His child, and He wants you to follow Him. :) We may not know what this year may bring, but God surely does and has already prepared you for today and for tomorrow. He will continue to prepare you for each day ahead so that you can be equipped with all you need. :) Whether it's graduation, marriage, job; financial, physical, emotional, spiritual...God knows what you will face in the new year ahead!

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." ~ Isaiah 55:8-9

My only resolution I want to make is to listen and obey my Lord, to follow His will, and to live a life (day by day) that is pleasing to Him as much as is in my power to do so. :) I just want to be sure I'm not in God's way, that I am not making plans on my own but following His will for me, so that He can do wonderful things in and through me this year. Whatever comes my way, I want to be able to say "God is good, all the time!".

What about you? :)

"For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly." ~ Psalm 84:11

This is a lesson that I am still learning. Sometimes I get so caught up in what I want to get done, meeting deadlines and meeting my goals that sometimes I forget that maybe God has some plans.

I'm getting better at listening. Last year if you told me I would work part time and be happy about it I would have said no but God had other plans. However, I want to get better at listening to him.

May we all learn this year about the importance of listening for God and following his plans for our lives.
